South Korea’s army is discovering a bizarre side effect of compulsory service: soldiers are using leave, military medical benefits, and clinic discounts to undergo cosmetic procedures while still in uniform. According to a recent piece, this quickly becomes a military problem when soldiers return with swollen eyelids, fresh nose jobs, or other recovery needs that require them to be excused from training, guard duty, or physical work.
