Nearly 60 percent of South Koreans support extending mandatory military service to women as the country struggles with a shrinking pool of eligible recruits. According to a Reform Institute poll of 1,006 adults, 59.6 percent backed drafting women and 34 percent opposed it. Support stood at 64.8 percent among men and 54.5 percent among women.

The poll also found 47.4 percent support for President Lee Jae Myung’s proposed “selective enlistment” system, which would create technology-intensive military positions.
