Conscripts at the Parola Armoured Brigade were served expired food on 30 September, according to Iltalehti.
The conscript said there was no replacement food available, leaving soldiers with the choice of eating the expired meal or going without food.
“The meal in question was a lentil risotto. The product’s best-before date was 24 August 2026. It was therefore served to the conscript more than a month after that date.
According to the conscript’s own estimate, around twenty packages of expired food were handed out at the Armoured Brigade on Wednesday.
“We had already been waiting for food for a while. Then something that old was brought out, so obviously you couldn’t eat at all,” the conscript told Iltalehti, expressing his frustration.
No replacement food was available, meaning the choice was either to eat the expired meal or go without food. The following day, food was once again served as normal, with valid dates.”
