MTV Uutiset reports that four conscripts from Finland’s Kainuu Brigade were fined after spreading AI-generated nude images of four female fellow conscripts. The Kainuu District Court convicted them for the unauthorized dissemination of a sexual image; the case was first reported by the Finnish Broadcasting Company (Yle).
The images were reportedly shared in a Snapchat group of more than 30 men shortly before the women’s service was due to end. According to Yle, the women had trusted the male conscripts, some of whom had access to their private social media photos, which were then used to create the fake images. The court imposed 20–60 day-fine penalties (Finland has a fine system that is proportional to daily earnings) and ordered compensation to the victims.
“Silja says that the last days of service were distressing. Women had to deal with male fellow servants on a daily basis. They wondered who had seen the nude photos and who believed the photos were real. “I was afraid that my credibility was gone. I felt humiliated and really hurt,” Silja tells Yle. Helmi’s reaction was anger. She says that She was deeply angry for many months after the end of his service. “For a long time, I hated all men, except my own family members and my boyfriend,” Helmi says.
